How much did 2016 Metro Manila Film Festival rake in?

What did its eight official entries earn during the shortened run of this 42nd edition?

Vince & Kath & James reportedly grossed P105 million from December 25, 2016 to January 3, 2017.

This is according to Star Cinema, through an Instagram post that also disclosed the supposed gross earnings of the other MMFF 2016 entries.

Star Cinema, the ABS-CBN film production arm, claims that the romantic comedy starring Julia Barretto, Joshua Garcia and Ronnie Alonte emerged as the No. 1 highest grossing film of MMFF 2016.

Based on information provided by the MMFF Executive Committee, Vince & Kath & James was the highest-grossing entry only in provincial cinemas, while Die Beautiful took the top spot in Metro Manila theaters.

The other entries of the 42nd edition of MMFF were (in alphabetical order): Ang Babae Sa Septic Tank 2, Kabisera, Oro, Saving Sally, Seklusyon, and Sunday Beauty Queen.

Here are the gross earnings of the MMFF 2016 entries, according to Star Cinema:

1. Vince & Kath & James - P105 million

2. Die Beautiful - P98 million

3. Seklusyon - P82 million

4. Ang Babae sa Septic Tank 2 - P45 million

5. Saving Sally - P27 million

6. Sunday Beauty Queen - P7.8 million

7. Kabisera - P4.3 million

8. Oro - P4.2 million

Star Cinema also says the eight official entries earned P373.3 million during the official run of MMFF 2016.

If correct, this makes the total ticket sales this year much lower than last year's.

However, the MMFF Execom has yet to disclose both the official box-office figures of each entry and the total earnings of the Magic 8.

Last year, the MMFF Execom announced that the MMFF 2015 entries had a combined box-office gross of P1.02 billion.

Comparisons made between 2015 and 2016, however, do not have the same baseline.

The official run of MMFF 2016 is 10 days, from December 25, 2016 to January 3, 2017, with some entries extended in select cinemas.

The official run of MMFF 2015, as it was in the past years of this annual festival, is 14 days.
