Alab Pilipinas stays in the running for outright ABL semis berth after rout of Knights

SANTA ROSA, Laguna - San Miguel Alab Pilipinas boosted its bid for an outright semifinal berth by walloping CLS Knights Indonesia, 101-63, on Sunday night in the Asean Basketball League (ABL) at the Sta. Rosa Multi-Purpose Complex.

Alab ended the elimination round with a 14-6 card, tying Mono Vampire Basketball Club but guaranteeing iself at least the third seed in the quarterfinals due to its 2-0 record against the Thailand team this season.

Alab, however, can still secure second spot and an outright berth in the semifinals with a win by Hong Kong Eastern over Chong Son Kung Fu on Wednesday in Hong Kong.

The Indonesian ballclub finished its maiden campaign in the ABL at seventh with a 5-15 record.

Pamboy Raymundo had a team-high 20 points while Parks added 19 points and six assists for Alab, which took an early 22-9 lead on the strength of eight points by Ray Parks and never looked back.

Pao Javelona, shaking off an injury suffered in Alab's previous outing against CLS on Wednesday, had 18 points and 10 rebounds.

Six players actually scored in double figures for Alab with head coach Jimmy Alapag getting a luxury of going to his bench with the win already in the bag early.

Shane Edwards had 21 points and seven rebounds while Brian Williams had 17 points and 12 rebounds for the Knights, who played without Fil-Am Keith Jensen.
